Guest Speaker: Shadrach White

So far in this class, Shadrach White’s point of view and advice about business is one of my favorite. As a CEO, he provides different advice for startup companies. He is very open to talking to people and was able to answer different questions that troubled most of the students. He is an optimist. He believes that a glass is half full, that a quality a CEO should have because, after one failure, you decide to quit. You will never be able to achieve something.

He talked about different qualities an entrepreneur should have such as being patient. This is something that he struggled with during his first years as an entrepreneur. As an entrepreneur, not every project is going to pick quickly sometimes you need to give your employees more freedom so that they can come up with ideas on their own to help you move forward. For instance, for developers, sometimes starting codes from the beginning could be really difficult, and if the manager is someone that is very strict with his employees. It could reflect badly on him and his employees will never try to provide creative ideas.

Something that was really interesting that he explained was that “People generally like people”, generally this is something that we tend to ignore, but forming relations with people could help us move forward with our business. He believes that every person is decent and has something to give you if you listen. It is through those relations that he built that he got his two angel investors.
